Ashenale Tanzania Safaris

Tarangire National Park.

Tarangire National park is one of the five largest parks in Tarangire and is also known as “elephant park”. With the Tarangire river at its center it is a magnet for migratory animals during the dry season.

The landscape of Tarangire National Park differs from the landscape of other national parks in Tanzania mainly due to the large, seasonal swamp areas, the seemingly endless tree savannas and the legendary baobab tree.

Around 550 species of birds breed in the green swamps all year round. Here you can spot Kori bustards, the largest flying bird native to Africa. Abandoned termite mounds are frequently visited by pairs of Red-and yellow barbets, which attract attention with their loud, clockwork-like duets.

Yellow-collared lovebirds as well as Rufous-tailed weaver and Ashy Starlings are abundant guests in the swamps of Tarangire. Another attraction are the large Masai ostriches.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

The Tarangire National Park can be visited all year round, but preferably in the dry season (June to October), as animals migrate to the Tarangire river. Migration peaks in November.
